Wedding Inspiration

Hey friends! I am so glad you have come back this week and joined me for my second wedding season post.  Today I wanted to share with you all a little bit of what inspired my wedding.

Last Summer it seemed like the farm weddings were the hot item.  And honestly we both love flannel, gardening, wood, and well ... a lot of elements of a barn.  But, like always, I wanted to do something different.   So we began scrambling to look for venues in Indiana that had more of an industrial ,minimalist essence.  What we discovered is that there were not a lot of options. So we kept going through the Knot and every wedding resource when we decided to go after our own "Fixer Upper"... an abandoned factory.  Although it was a crazy amount of work, it did allow for a lot of creative freedom.

If you are planning a wedding or have planned your own, you know there are so many elements that come together to make the create the style of a particular wedding.  Looking back I realized that, as crazy as it was, by entering with a blank slate- I got to design everything.  And I mean everything. Every center piece, Every display, every color choice, every plant, every menu item ... and so you get the point.  By being able to curate each of those elements to create a truly unique event.

COLOR

As we were getting married in July, I knew that I probably should do some warm pastels. However, if you know me at all you probably know my wardrobe is largely made of grays, neutrals, earth tones, and deep colors.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good blush and we even have mint green in our kitchen.  But sparkles, pinks, and pastels were not quite what I wanted to be the defining feature my wedding.  (So really, I should of gotten married in Fall and Christmas ... but I decided instead to just bring those colors right on in to our Summer wedding).

Family/ wedding party COLORs

Not only does it take some time (and major decision making) to choose and lay out inspiration for our wedding party's outfits, but family can also sometimes request specific colors they should wear.  Who knew right? Well I didn't at first. So it is helpful to lay out ideas.  Obviously, from below, change happens between planning and execution ... but it is helpful to lay it all out to help imagine the full aesthetic.

METAL

So last year, as you may know, gold was the color.  So at the time, not lying, there really wasn't any copper around.  So, I decided I wanted to go the road less traveled (shocker, right?).  I played around with the various metals, but I found that I really did love the copper with the deep colors I was going for.  We painted candlesticks and different elements to highlight this in our pallette.

ECLECTIC VIBE

We were really inspired to make an eclectic romantic space.  I wanted to create a scene that had elements of what I would imagine an old home library or study would contain.  To create this, we searched for vintage items and placed botanical photos everywhere.

LOOKING BACK

Overall, our wedding was not the traditional Summer wedding but we loved making it so uniquely us.  We both love an inviting, warm, home-y, elegant, and vintage style so we really tried to encapsulate that in our wedding.  I'm planning on posting some more photos of the big day, but this hopefully let you have a glimpse into our inspiration!

XOXO,
