"Detail Shots" Checklist

Okay, maybe you’ve heard this term “Detail Shots” and it seems kinda weird. It is a term we use in the video/photography world to describe those video clips and photos of little detailed things like your rings and such! These may be things you may not think of at first, as they can be small and seemingly insignificant, but in reality are such a fun thing to capture and look back on. Whether it is a fun perfume scent you are wearing just for your big day, or a piece of jewelry that was a gift from a family member - these are the small yet important things you want to remember! So, because this may not be something you had thought of before.. I wanted to give you a few ideas of what that may be – that you may not even think of!

Jewelry:

This one is pretty easy. You most likely may be wearing some important and nice jewelry on the big day. Whether it is a necklace from a relative, cuff links from a grandfather, or a barrette from your aunt’s wedding - think of any physical accessories you’ll be wearing on your big day. Did you splurge on some cute earrings? Is there a necklace your fiance gave you? Make sure to bring it and point it out to your videographer/photographer!

A hanger:

Okay, obviously you’ll be wearing your dress during the day so you may say, “Why do I need this?”. However, you have to keep in mind that your dress/suit will probably be captured on film before you actually put it on! I generally bring a hanger just in case, but if there is a special wooden hanger, or one that is more attractive than the plastic one from the bridal store, grab it and bring it with you!

Invitations:

This is something I forgot from my wedding and was so upset! If you want your invitations captured on film, make sure to bring a copy with you! Are you afraid of forgetting them? You could also mail the invitation to your videographer/photographer and request they bring it with them! It is a fun addition to those detail shots.

Vows/Notes:

Are you exchanging vows? Are there notes you are reading to eachother beforehand? Make sure to bring those to your getting-ready location so that the videographer/photographer can include those in those detail shots.

Perfume, Nail polish, etc:

Okay, maybe this seems silly, but if you are using your significant other’s favorite scent or one that was a gift, it can be really fun to capture it! Especially if it is in a cute bottle! It is a fun little detail that can be great to look back on and remember.

Whatever else is special to you!

Hopefully this gives you a starting idea of some things you may want to bring for your wedding day! As you are getting things ready for your big day, try to think through those special items that are meaningful to you.

Other notes:

Timing

Make sure to coordinate with your videographer/photographer to make sure you know when details shots are happening. This is important so that you can make sure you have those items you want captured available and ready! The day can be crazy, and you don’t know if you will have time later in the day – so make sure to get them packed and ready to be captured.

Communicating BeFOREHAND

If you want something specific for the detail shots, its great to let your photographer/videographer know beforehand. They may have a ribbon, fun fabric, or other “props” they could bring as well. It just is important to get that all worked out before the big day arrives! You don’t want to be worrying about what you want captured during the wedding, so make sure to communicate those things beforehand. It doesn’t bother us, it actually helps!
